Note on age/ note on medical conditions that should avoid ginseng…
Note to use according to the guided dosage.
Note not to use on days with stomach pain/ diarrhea…
Note not to use for people with the following symptoms/ conditions:
- People with common colds or fever
For those with a cold or flu, Ginseng should not be used. Because Ginseng strongly tonifies “qi,” it can cause external pathogens to become trapped in the body and unable to be released, leading to a prolonged illness. - People with acute liver and gallbladder diseases
Those with acute infectious hepatitis, acute cholecystitis, or gallstones are advised against using Ginseng. Using Ginseng can cause “qi” stagnation and worsen the condition. - People with acute gastroenteritis, vomiting, stomach pain, or loose stools
These conditions belong to “damp-heat” accumulation. Ginseng should not be used as it will worsen the condition of the stomach and intestines instead of providing nourishment. - People with acute gastric ulcers, bleeding, or severe colitis
Gastric ulcers are caused by excessive gastric juice secretion. In Traditional Medicine, this is called “qi” stagnation and stomach fire, leading to heat and bleeding. Treating this requires harmonizing blood and “qi,” while Ginseng tonifies “qi,” making it even stronger and potentially worsening the condition. - People with bronchiectasis, tuberculosis, or coughing up blood
In Traditional Medicine, these patients often have “yin deficiency and excessive fire” with weak lung “yin.” Treatment requires nourishing “yin” and lowering “fire.” Ginseng can disturb “yin” and activate “fire,” making blood-vomiting symptoms more severe. - People with high blood pressure
Hypertension patients should specifically avoid Ginseng. This herb has a dual effect on blood pressure: small doses can increase blood pressure, while very large doses might lower it. Generally, those with high blood pressure should not use Ginseng. - Men prone to nocturnal emission or premature ejaculation
Ginseng promotes sex hormones, and men with these conditions are often sensitive and easily over-stimulated. Taking Ginseng can worsen premature ejaculation. - People with immune system disorders
People with autoimmune or immune-related issues like boils, rheumatoid arthritis, or lupus should avoid Ginseng. It can increase antibodies and stimulate anti-nuclear antibodies, potentially worsening the condition. - Pregnant women
- Because fresh ginseng has “COLD” PROPERTIES (TÍNH HÀN). For some pregnant women, using Ginseng may be unfavorable for the fetus (cold uterus). Although ginseng tonifies the blood, a pregnant woman’s body is very sensitive, so use should be limited. However, this is a general recommendation; personally, I still used FRESH GINSENG during my pregnancy in stews and soups with fresh ginger to neutralize the “cold” property, and both of my deliveries were healthy and safe.
